We have a collection of  case studies which show how with the right support and guidance young people can achieve outcomes on Youth Contract.

Kathleen Waugh Age 18 (Hemsworth)

We have been working with Kathleen Waugh since June 2013 she  had some issues at home and was living with a host family in Hemsworth, she had very low confidence and self-esteem and wasn’t engaging in college and was classed as NEET, she had spoken to a friend about Youth Contract at SESKU Academy and wanted to get involved at first we built a relationship with her and looked at her options like college and apprenticeships and started moving her forward with her life, we then found a business studies level 2 course at Hemsworth Community College which she started in September 2013 everything was going well and she was growing in confidence then her life took a turn for the worse when her host family asked her to leave as she was nearly 18 years old, this upset Kathleen and she ended up homeless SESKU Academy kicked in and gave her the support she needed. The first step we took was to take her to the Open Door Project in Wakefield to find her some temporary accommodation while the SESKU team found her something more permanent in our local area so she could continue to attend college we found her a property and helped her financially with the bond so she could move in and start to rebuild her life. we then gave Kathleen a chance to get involved at SESKU as a volunteer which helped build her sports skills and helped her grow into a confident young women now she gets involved regular at SESKU Academy and helps out in the holidays running sports activities and holiday clubs.

Sarah Phillips 17 (South Elmsall)

Sarah Phillips was not sure what courses she wanted to attend at college and needed some extra support and advice to help her make the right decisions and career moves she had spoken with a friend who had also been involved with SESKU Academy on Youth Contact, after a few weeks going through all her options and courses she was interested in we spent time working through each option to gain a short list of what she wanted to do for a job when she had finished her college course, she decided Health & Social Care, I.T and several A Levels was going to be her best options and we got her enrolled at Pontefract New College and gave her some support with software for computer since she started in September 2013 she has excelled in college and has hit top targets in all her subjects and has received several merits and awards and verbal recognition for her hard week. She has now hit her 6 month progression at college and SESKU are giving her help towards purchasing a new ipad for her to use at college and she has deserved it.

Jason had some issues at school and was an underachiever we got her referred for extra support through connections .We have worked closely with Jason on planning his future and improving his confidence and self esteem, Jason has some issues with his weight and this was a barrier to learning for him as he was very conscious of his body image. we have spent time looking at diets and exercises and he has grown in confidence and his weight is improving all the time and now .Jason has started with Chevin Housing doing level 1 and level 2 construction qualifications that would have been unheard off before we gave him the guidance and  support he required to move forward with his life.
