Ryan Redfern

ROLE: Contracts Development/ Training Manager/ I.T & Web Development

“I have always lived in the SESKU area and was lucky enough to have a solid family who were both in employment don’t get me wrong times were hard but I had the support I needed to succeed .I have seen the devastation caused by the closure of coal mines in our area combined with the lack of work opportunities for young people. I previously ran my own I.T business offering computer support and web design to local companies, charities and home users while doing my job in the local area, I have witnessed the damage caused by worklessness and anti social behavior  is having on our community”.“After seeing firsthand the massive difference that SESKU Academy was having in our local area, with the Northfield Community Centre Martial Arts facility including sports sessions for children along with positive activities for families. This work combined with accredited training which helps people to gain employment I found the project was amazing and well thought out”.“SESKU is making a big impact which was needed urgently. I knew the delivery standard was high at SESKU as both my children who were 6 and 8 years at the time had got involved every chance they got and still do. This was the sort of charity that with lots of hard work and 100% commitment I could make a big difference for unemployed and young people in SESKU area”.“I started volunteering in 2011 to get involved with SESKU to help out, after a few months I started doing my training on a weekend as I was still running my own business this was quite a challenge as at SESKU all the staff are trained to a high standard even volunteers. After I had been at SESKU for just over 12 months I became a proper member of staff and closed my business to concentrate totally on making the Impact in the community and making a difference to people less fortunate. I love my job and what SESKU can do for our community”.“I have worked at SESKU Academy since 2012 now and have enjoyed the diversity of the role and the real job satisfaction you get when you have made a difference in someone’s life. Working at SESKU has also been amazing for my two children who have made a number of new friends whom they would have never met, if they were not getting involved in positive activities organised through SESKU Academy. I have seen young people with low confidence improve day by day in sporting sessions and families who have been on hard times, out of work helped back into employment through the right training and support which is offered at SESKU that’s my reward and I love it.”
